Southern Hickory golf tournament comes to LaGrange first week of April The second annual Southern Hickory For Ball Golf Tournament is scheduled for April 1-3 at The Fields golf course in LaGrange. This is a tournament where the players all use 1920 to 1930 hickory shafted golf clubs and a modern golf ball over a course that is about 6,200 yards long. The tournament consists of an April 1 practice round and then two days of best-ball play in both gross and handicap divisions. Players from all over the United States will play including the past USGA President Trey Holland and multiple hickory play national champion Randy Jensen. Some players have been able to shoot par or better with the old hickory clubs, and last year the winners were under par for the two rounds.
