A Peachtree City woman who stored crystal methamphetamine in one of her children’s bedrooms is being held at the Fayette County Jail on $242,000 bond.

Laura Lynn Walker, 34, had that hefty bond set Thursday afternoon by Fayette Magistrate James A. White.

Police found methamphetamine and some drug related objects inside a lunch box and a bookbag in one of her children’s rooms, according to warrants filed for her arrest.

“I’ll tell you, the thing that most upsets this court is the cruelty to children (charge),” White said. “It’s one thing to mess yourself up. But it’s another to endanger your children by having that stuff around and all these people coming in.”

Peachtree City Police Chief James Murray requested White to put a condition on her bond that she not live in Peachtree City if she makes bond, but White declined that measure in favor of a rather high bond amount.

Murray said the typical concern is that Walker might return to another location in Peachtree City “and set up shop again.”

Police made numerous arrests of individuals connected to Walker’s residence in the Center Green subdivision, police said.

Walker told the court that her children were living with her husband whom she is in the process of divorcing.

White told Walker he wasn’t finding her guilty of the charges, but he was appalled by the evidence presented in the warrants.

“As a mother, you should be ashamed of yourself,” White said. “I don’t know if you’re guilty or not but I wouldn’t put my children in any danger like that.”

This arrest comes several days after three people in the Wynnmeade subdivision were arrested with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Murray said he plans to keep asking for a high bond for suspects accused of distributing drugs and he also will ask for the bond condition forcing the suspect to live outside of Peachtree City until the case is adjudicated.

“It’s incumbent upon me to ask for this for all of the people in the community,” Murray said.

Officers found over 31 grams of crystal meth in Ziploc bags at Walker’s residence in addition to a digital scale for weighing items, a glass smoking pipe and four hypodermic needles. The search warrant was served Tuesday.

Police are attempting to contact the owners of the home, which was rented by a couple from Cleveland, Ohio.
