Local soccer teams to square off

With high school soccer now in full swing, local teams are looking forward to the first intracounty matchups of the year this weekend.

Starr’s Mill plays at McIntosh Friday, with the boys game at 6 p.m. and the girls game at 8 p.m. Sandy Creek visits Fayette County Saturday, with the girls playing at 5:30 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m.

The Chiefs are off to a 10-0 start, with a 4-0 record in Region 5-AAAAA. The latest wins are 8-0 over Lovejoy Mar. 2 and 2-0 over Northgate last Friday. The Lady Chiefs beat Lovejoy 15-0 and Northgate 7-0 to move to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the region.

The Panthers are 5-2 overall and 2-0 in region play after beating Riverdale 14-0, losing 3-2 to Woodward and beating Milton 1-0 last week. The Lady Panthers beat Riverdale 15-0, tied Woodward 1-1 and beat Milton 3-2 to go to 6-0-2 and 2-0.

The Tigers faced Riverdale in their first region game Friday and came away with a 5-0 win. They are 3-2 overall. The Lady Tigers split for the week, beating Riverdale 9-0 and losing a 1-0 decision to Hardaway to move to 3-3 overall and 1-0 in the region.

The Patriots fell to 0-2 in Region 4-AAAA and 1-3 overall with a 4-0 loss to East Coweta and a 1-0 loss to Lithia Springs. The Lady Patriots, after losing 6-0 to East Coweta, improved to 3-2 and 1-1 with a 10-0 over Creekside and an 8-0 victory over Lithia Springs.

The Landmark Lady War Eagles fell 7-0 to Holy Innocents and 4-2 to Sandy Creek to start the season, then beat Creekside 15-0 and lost 9-0 to Pace to move to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in Region 5-A.
