Edwards leads Fayette voting

Only 21 percent of Fayette’s voters headed to the polls Tuesday to cast their votes in the Presidential preference primary.

North Carolina’s John Edwards won the county with 3,957 votes, while probable Democratic nominee and Massachusettes Senator John Kerry finished second with 3,3 66 votes.

The other vote totals included:

• Carol Moseley Braun, 26.

• Wesley Clark, 37.

• Howard Dean, 118.

• Dick Gephardt, 20.

• Dennis Kucinich, 115.

• Joe Liberman, 105.

• Al Sharpton, 575.

In the non-binding preference poll on the state flag, the 2003 flag garnered 8,620 votes, while the 2001 flag received just 3,032 tallies.

Not surprisingly,President Bush received all 3,284 Republican ballots cast.

Of the 56,445 registered voters in Fayette County, 11,884 voted Tuesday.
