Local author’s book on war in Georgia available now If you’re a Revolutionary war buff, you need to head to Omega Books and pick up a copy of a local author’s newest work. “Hope is Constant” was written by Fayette County’s Cheryl Davis and tells the story of the war in Georgia. “Months prior to the beginning of the American Revolutionary War, Scottish soldier Angus McDonald meets American Rachel Martin while on leave in London. Believing that her brother’s house in Georgia is the safest place for orphaned Rachel, Angus helps her find passage to the colonies. Before putting her on a ship for home in Georgia, the couple exchange Bibles as well as the promise to wed. Angus pledges that “even though Hell’s gates may open before him,” he will still come to Rachel in six months.” “Angus is unable to keep his promise when the Revolutionary War starts. For four long years his only solace is the old letters, about her life and her friends in the colonies, which he finds tucked in the back of Rachel’s Bible. With absolutely no contact and unable to reassure Rachel of his continued devotion, his hopes slowly sink to the point that his only desire is to be certain that Rachel is safe and happy with any life she may have chosen without him. And Angus will risk his life if only for that slim hope that she might still be waiting for him,” Davis said in an email synopsis of the plot. Davis was born in Atlanta and grew up in the metro area. When she was writing the book, she lived in a log home which is adjacent to the property that was the model for Tara.
