Grab your favorite mug and wear something green because the Stars on the Southern Crescent Coffee House’s second annual St. Patrick’s Day Festival is right around the corner. There will be plenty of entertainment to transport you for an evening to the Emerald Isle. Two nights of music and dancing, March 5 and March 6 are planned with fresh and familiar sights and sounds.

The ever popular Lost Boys, that band of rockers from the middle ages, perform their unique style of Celtic music Friday evening. The Boys have been a regular attraction at the Georgia Renaissance Festival where their brand of entertainment keeps the crowds clapping and tapping.

Also on Friday, Nashville-based band, Daybreak, will add their blend of pop/rock Irish music to the mix.

Between the music sets, the Drake School of Irish Dancing returns in what is becoming a traditional event for the coffee house. The popularity of these talented girls is sure to make the evening a special one. The group is under the direction of Barbara Joyce and will fill the “emerging talent” slot of the program.

Saturday welcomes the Buddy O’Reilly Band, a well known act in Atlanta for 20 years.

Not to be outdone, Barney’s Goat, performing in the Metro area since 1993, plays a blend of Irish, Scottish and British Isles music rounding out a weekend designed to make everyone dream of their own pot of gold.

The Coffee House raises money for plays being produced by Offshoot Productions. Now in their eleventh season, Offshoot’s latest venture is Shakespeare’s “The Comedy of Errors” being produced at The Villages Amphitheater in Fayetteville. Artistic Director Susan Steadman, who has been with Offshoot since its inception and is also the creative mind behind Stars on the Southern Cross “treats the coffee house as a theatrical event.” The transformation of the Fayette Family YMCA at 215 Huiet Road is something the whole community can enjoy.

“Advance tickets are selling briskly at the Peachtree City Library and the Fayette County Library,” Steadman pointed out, “and a good number of people have ordered tickets by mail.” This is quickly becoming a venue Fayette citizens can’t wait to attend. Ticket prices are $8 for general admission and $6 for senior citizens and children 12 and under.

Showtime for both Friday and Saturday nights is 8:15 p.m. Doors open at 7:45 p.m. Discounts on hot drinks are available for patrons who bring their own mug. But don’t just grab any mug. A “most unusual mug” award is given out each evening, so make it a good one. Concessions include gourmet coffee, tea from Teavana, hot apple cider, cold beverages and home-made desserts provided by EJ’s Sweets and Gift Shop.

Visit the Peachtree City Library at 201 Willowbend Road 770-631-2520 or the Fayette County Library at 1821 Heritage Parkway, 770-461-8841. For additional information call Offshoot Productions at 770-631-2362 or e-mail them at offshootpr@aol.com.
