Mama Mia comes to the Fox By LINDSAY BIANCHI On its way to becoming the biggest grossing musical of all time, Mamma Mia comes to the Fabulous Fox Theatre in Atlanta this week. Having raked in $750 million worldwide, the Abba-esque musical has graced stages in London, Hamburg, Toronto, The Netherlands, Australia, Seoul, Edinburgh, Japan, Las Vegas, New York, and now Atlanta. It will soon be playing in Dublin, Stuttgart and Stockholm. Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus, the two Bs of Abba, made music history in the mid-seventies penning classic pop tunes like Waterloo, Take a Chance on Me, and Dancing Queen, which became a number one hit in the U.S. and around the world. Along with Agnetha Faltskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad, the Abba As, the Swedish pop music group has sold more than 350 million records. Its no surprise then that their music would eventually find its way to the Broadway stage. Containing over 20 classic songs by the group, Mamma Mia is the story of a mother who faces her past when three men return to the Greek island she and her 20-year-old daughter live on. Planning to be married, the daughter is about to find out which mystery man is her father. Despite all the drama involved, the stage is alive with music, dancing and nostalgic good times making this show a guaranteed, dancing in the aisles, get happy hit! said one critic. One key to the shows popularity is the fact that everyone, unless theyve been living under a rock for the last 30 years, knows the words to all the songs. Its a sing-along sensation designed to delight the entire family. Other hits woven into the story include The Winner Takes it All, The Name of the Game, Super Trouper, Knowing Me, Knowing You, S.O.S., Gimme, Gimme, Gimme and I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do. Mamma Mia runs through March 7. Running time is 2 hours, 20 minutes with a 15 minute intermission. Tickets are available at the box office from Ticketmaster, 404-817-8700.
