Christ the King church will offer Ash Wednesday service tonight Christ the King Charismatic Episcopal Church will observe Ash Wednesday tonight at 7:30 p.m. Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent which marks the 40 days, not including Sundays, prior to the celebration of Easter Sunday. Practiced for centuries, Ash Wednesday is celebrated with Holy Communion and with ashes (often made from the burning of palms left over from the previous year’s Palm Sunday service) being placed on the forehead of believers in the sign of a cross. Father David Epps, the church’s pastor, will bring a brief Lenten meditation. All baptized believers are invited to receive the imposition of ashes and to receive Holy Communion. “The season of Lent is seen as a special time for meditation, prayer and penitential practices; for increased understanding of Christ’s sacrifice and resurrection; and for the renewal of baptismal vows and recommitment to the Christian life,” Epps said. “Traditional Lenten practices include: fasting, special commitments, good deeds and alms giving, prayer and reflection, studying Scripture, and increased participation in church worship services.” Christ the King is between Peachtree City and Newnan on Ga.
