Grace Christian places 2nd in tournament

Grace Christian Academy’s middle school boys basketball team ended its season with a 11-6 record after taking second place in their recent conference tournament. GCA lost to St. John’s the Evangelist School of Hapeville 57-45 in the championship game.

The single-elimination tournament took place the first week of February, culminating with the championship game Feb. 6 at the Bedford School in Fairburn.

Grace Christian began the tournament with a win against Bedford and then pulled out a close 48-41 win against Our Lady of Victory in the second round.

“Our guys played great. I couldn’t be more proud of them,” said coach Brian Fourman. “We were the third-seeded team, so we were excited to make it to the championship game. It’s a great way to end the season and to look forward to our JV team next year.”

Grace Christian Academy started a high school with a ninth grade this year, with plans to add a grade each year. With the addition of a tenth grade next year, the school will be able to have a full junior varsity team, in addition to the middle school team.

Other schools in the conference tournament included Griffin Christian and St. Paul Lutheran in Peachtree City.
