SCAT wins divisional title

The Southern Crescent Aquatic Team accomplished something that no other team has ever done by winning its sixth consecutive divisional championship the weekend of Feb. 6-8.

Competing against nine other teams in Georgia’s Southwest Division, SCAT scored 5,860 points to win the meet over Chattahoochee Gold (4,765), Carrollton Bluefins (3,862), Swim Macon (2,741) and Warner Robins (1,982).

“This was one of the closest divisional meets ever, and it took teamwork to accomplish this victory,” said SCAT head coach Jamey Myers, whose team entered 115 swimmers while Chattahoochee Gold brought 140. “It was not just the numbers and the home team advantage that allowed us to win, but the quality of our swimming. We were able to win the medal count, which is a good indication of the quality of swimming.”

Leading the medal counts were the following gold-medal divisional champion relay teams:

• 11-12 Girls, 200 free relay (Kiersten Mosssburg, Jessica Heimann, Kelsey Pratt, Bailey Cartwright).

• 11-12 Boys, 200 free and 200 medley relays (SamChun Shimabe, Andy Lucak, Casey Blanchard, Alex Harmon, Jacob Siri).

• 13-14 Girls, 200 medley relay (Julie Glass, Jalee Walters, Keaton Hannon, Sarah Larson).

• Senior Girls, 200 free and 200 medley relays (Lauren Cartwright, MacKenzie Garrot, Brittany Stevens, Nicole Roddenbery).

• Senior Boys, 200 free and 200 medley relays (Thomas Lucak, Billy Jamerson, Noah Copeland, and Chris Lee).

SCAT swimmers scoring big points with one or more top three individual finishes included Casey Blanchard, Bailey Cartwright, Lauren Cartwright, Pedro Chunga, Noah Copeland, Katelyn Davis, MacKenzie Garrot, Julie Glass, Bernadette Green, Alex Harmon, Jessica Heimann, Georgia Highsmith, Matthew Hildebrand, Billy Jamerson, Heather Jones, Sarah Larson, Chris Lee, Thomas Lucak, Matthew Manley, Sarah Manley, David Menchinger, Zach Payne, Kimberley Ray, Nicole Roddenbery, Robbie Scott, SamChun Shimabe, Brittany Stevens and Jalee Walters.
