St. Gabriels Catholic plans Ash Wednesday services The Catholic Church of Saint Gabriel in Fayetteville will join Christians around the world in observing Ash Wednesday, offering three Masses and a communion service to mark the beginning of Lent. The Lenten season commemorates the 40 days Christ fasted in the desert. Mass at St. Gabriels, including the imposition of ashes, will be said by Pastor Jimmy Adams at 8:30 a.m. , 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 25. An earlier communion service, planned for 6:30 a.m. that morning, will also offer the imposition of ashes for those who are unable to attend the later services. The afternoon Mass will be celebrated for the children of the parish religious education program, but will be open to all who wish to attend. The season of Lent also will be remembered each Friday at 7 p.m., with the Stations of the Cross, a devotion in which Catholics, in spirit, accompany Christ in his journey to Calvary. The devotion has 14 stops, at which the congregation meditates on the suffering and death of Christ. During the entire season of Lent, a regular weekend Mass schedule will take place, with Vigil Mass held on Saturdays at 5:30 p.m., followed by Masses on Sundays at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Life Teen Masses are held each Sunday at 5 p.m. Saint Gabriels is at 152 Antioch Rd., just south of its intersection with Ga. Hwy. 92 South. For more information or directions to the church, call the parish office, 770-461-0492.
