Good Black History program at WMS

Last week I had the occasion to attend a motivational assembly at Whitewater Middle School. This event was a kick-off for Black History Month and the presenter, Mr. R. V. Brown, was excellent.

Concerns about the emphasis on standardized testing and curriculum content that is problematic dominate many discussions about education. It was encouraging to learn that opportunities are also being provided to stimulate our children’s thinking about the impact of their behavior.

I thank Mr. Mike Maxwell, principal of Fayette Middle School, for making my participation in this activity possible. I am pleased to know that some administrators in our schools understand the importance of programs of this kind and hope more students will be given a similar experience.

Ms. Elverta Williams

Fayetteville, Ga.
