Prince of Peace Lutheran members embark on 40-day ‘spiritual journey’

Beginning Feb. 21, and continuing through April 18, members of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Fayetteville, along with those in the community who wish to participate, will embark on a 40-day spiritual journey called the “40 Days of Purpose.” The 7-week campaign seeks to answer the question, “What on earth am I here for?”

At the heart of the journey is Rick Warren’s best-selling book, The Purpose Driven Life. Warren is the founding pastor of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif.

The “journey” begins on Saturday, Feb. 21, at 4 p.m., in the Prince of Peace Life Center with the “40 Days of Purpose” National Simulcast of Pastor Rick Warren’s “Purpose Driven Life” message. Those attending will receive a free copy of the book. Childcare will be provided during the simulcast.

“Our journey is intended to give us all new life and enthusiasm for God, for those whom we love and those in the world around us,” said Justin Kollmeyer, pastor of Prince of Peace. “Any resident of the community is welcome to attend.”

Prince of Peace will be joined by 2,900 other churches across the country in the campaign.

“More importantly,” Kollmeyer added, “the “40 Days of Purpose” has accomplished a spiritual goal by winning new people to the Lord, baptizing new believers, and helping people find an inner peace by answering the question of why we are here on earth.”

During the 40-day event, participants will read through The Purpose Driven Life (a short chapter each day), memorize five key Bible verses, and explore reasons of existence.

Adults and teens also will have the opportunity to connect with a small group which will meet each week and discuss the key messages of the book, enjoy fellowship, and pray.

Prince of Peace will have weekly Sunday services at 8:15, 9:30 and 11a.m., focused toward each week’s topic, along with music and drama to reinforce the messages. Children of all ages also will hear the messages of the book in their Sunday School classes.

Kollmeyer said that a “job fair” will feature the church’s ministries and public opportunities for service, and “encourage people to connect their lives to a purposeful task in God’s kingdom” within the church and local community.

“By the end of the ‘40 Days of Purpose,’” Kollmeyer said, “participants will know God’s purpose for their lives, the big picture of their lives, and how all the pieces of life fit together. This perspective will, therefore, help to reduce stress, simplify decisions, increase satisfaction, and most importantly, to help with the realization that God loves us unconditionally. “

The simulcast kickoff on Feb. 21 also will feature praise and worship with the Prince of Peace Praise Band. The “40 Days of Purpose” will conclude Sunday, April 18, with a celebration event to enjoy the stories of the journey.

Prince of Peace is on Ga. Hwy. 314 between Lowe’s and the Fayette Pavilion. For more information, visit the church’s website, www.popdove.com or call the church office, 770-461-3403.
