Senate OKs golf cart bill; Governor’s approval next

Unlicensed drivers ready to legally get behind the wheel of their golf carts are one big step closer to doing so.

Friday morning, the Georgia Senate voted 49-1 to approve legislation that changes the definition of “motorized cart” so cities can make rules on how golf carts can be driven and regulated.

House Bill 1063 was previously approved by the state House of Representatives. The only Senate member voting against the legislation was Sen. Regina Thomas of Savannah.

All that’s needed now is the signature of Gov. Sonny Perdue and the bill will become law, said State Sen. Mitch Seabaugh, who joined with Rep. Lynn Westmoreland in making sure the legislation had support of lawmakers statewide.
