Restaurant can’t get alcohol license for 60 days, council rules

A Fayetteville restaurant was denied a license to sell alcohol for at least 60 days after its owner was cited in December for serving alcohol without a permit and operating a business without a license.

The City Council voted Thursday night to revoke Thailand of Smiles’ pouring license for at least 60 days and require the owner to re-apply for a license. Owner Ampron McNeal also was encouraged to make sure she understands the city’s alcohol ordinance when she does re-apply.

McNeal addressed the council in fairly broken English, leading Mayor Ken Steele to advise her to seek someone who can explain the ordinance’s requirements in her native language.

Police Chief Johnny Roberts said McNeal also falsified information on her application for an alcohol license with the city, which indicated she had never been charged with any criminal offense. But since she had been previously ticketed for selling alcohol without a permit by the city, Roberts said he denied McNeal’s application.

After the 60-day waiting period, McNeal will be able to reapply for a license to serve alcohol.
