Stock Car 101 now offered at CCSU

Have you ever just wanted to take a course for the fun of it? Well, watch out race fans, Clayton College & State University announces the beginning of what could turn out to be the most fun on four wheels that the Division of Continuing Education has ever offered.

For only $49, race fans, young and old alike, can enroll in Stock Car 101, a program hosted by Donnie Allison, 10 time Winston Cup champion and member of one of the first racing families in the U.S.

The course will be Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004 at the Harry S. Downs Center for Continuing Education on the campus of Clayton State, beginning at 6 p.m.

Stock Car 101 consists of an evening with Allison and includes a history of the great drivers in stock car racing; stories of the different tracks NASCAR runs; how stock cars are built; the testing process; and events - from qualifying to race day - both in front of and behind the scenes.

“The Stock Car 101 program is a great way for anyone interested to get a more behind the scenes look at what goes into putting together a winning race team,” said Allison. “For me, getting to meet stock car fans, signing autographs and answering their questions is a great treat.”

“The course is a personal approach to racing,” said Terry Spradlin, an aide to Allison. “At first we thought the course would pull in new fans to the sport, and it has, but mostly, it's the die-hard race fans that attend.”

Spradlin and Allison have discovered that many racecar fans are dying to know exactly what’s going on behind the scenes in racing; and that’s what Stock Car 101 is all about. The two to three-hour course is designed to answer all the questions fans are asking. With video and PowerPoint presentations and a Q & A session, no stone is left unturned.

Fans can bring their cameras and have the opportunity to get their picture taken with Allison. In addition, Allison will have postcards of different cars he’s driven throughout his career to autograph for “students.”
