Tigers fare well at county meet
The Fayette County High School swim team competed in a countywide meet this past Saturday at Washington Park in downtown Atlanta. In addition to placing third in all three team categories (out of six teams), many individuals turned in outstanding performances. The boys 200-yard medley relay team (Kirk Palan, Bobby Griffin, Jay Page, Peter Van Splunter) placed third with a time of 1:57.34. The girls 200-yard medley relay team (Christy Froehlinch, Rachel Talley, Katelyn Davis, Jordan Gore) placed second with a time of 2:03.38, reaffirming their state qualifying status. In the boys 50-yard free, Van Splunter finished second with a 23.98. In the girls 50-yard free, Talley placed third with a 27.29 and Gore was fourth with a 27.56. In the girls 100 fly, Davis finished with a 1:03.85 for second place. The girls 200-yard free relay was probably the most dramatic event of the day. Talley, Froehlinch, Gore and Davis bettered the 1999 meet record by .05 seconds, yet were beaten by an outstanding Starrs Mill team by 3 one-hundredths of a second. Our girls bettered their time by several seconds with a 1:49.33. Palan qualified for the state meet in the 100-yard breast, taking third in the meet with a time of 1:08.49. Griffin finished in a close fourth. Rachel Talley and Katelyn Davis finished second and third in a close 100-yard breast. Coach Donaldson and Coach Moore are extremely proud of all the swimmers, especially the graduating seniors for whom this was the last meet. They are Bobby Griffin, Sarah McGrath, Jay Page, Kirk Palan, Jared Schnute, and Katie Wilson.
