2004 PANTHER DUALS Wrestling Results The Starrs Mill Panthers defended their home turf last weekend with a 5-0 team record and first place in the 2004 Panther Duals. The Panthers defeated Ringgold 35-32 in the championship round after taking an 11-0 lead on a tech fall from senior Tyler Kourajian (130 lbs.) and a first-period pin from senior Mike Cosper (135). After a win by Ringgold at 140, Starrs Mill came back with a 10-2 win by Davy Woods (145), a pin by Tyler Freeman (152) and a 12-2 win by junior Patrick Kellerman (160). From there, Ringgold tied the score with the help of three straight wins, then picked up a couple more wins to go up 32-31 before junior Devin King (125) recorded an 11-1 major win to give the Panthers the title. Henry County placed third for the weekend with a 55-24 win over Westminster. Compiling individual 5-0 records on the day were King, Kourajian (now 39-7 on the season), Cosper and Woods. Kevin Thurber (2-0) and Patrick Waters (3-0) were also unbeaten, as was Freeman (4-0). Finishing the day at 4-1 were Kellerman, Steven Savage (119), Matt Hartpence (140) and sophomore Bradley Conner (215). Cory Radcliffe (112) and David Edison (189) were 3-2 for the event. LaGrange finished fifth in the team standings, followed by Sandy Creek, McIntosh, Cass, Rockdale and Spalding. \McIntosh downed Rockdale 38-34 in the first round before losing to Henry County, LaGrange, Ringgold and Cass. Sandy Creek opened the day with a loss to Westminster, then defeated Cass and Spalding before losing to Starrs Mill and LaGrange. The area duals are set for this Saturday at McIntosh, with the state duals one week later at McEachern.
