Public meetings set on proposed hunting changes

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division will hold four public meetings throughout the state to receive input on proposed changes to the 2004-2005 hunting season regulations.

The purpose of these meetings is to invite public input in order to incorporate suggestions into a regulation package that will be considered by the DNR Board of Natural Resources for approval in the spring. Those interested are encouraged to bring these meetings to the attention of others that also may be interested in participating.

Dove season changes and expanding the areas/zones in which alligators may be hunted are the primary focus of these meetings.

The meetings will be as follows:

Feb. 2, 7 p.m., Terrell County Governmental Building, U.S. Highway 82/Ga. Highway 520, Dawson.

Feb. 3, 7 p.m., American Legion, Post 77, 674 Legion Road/Ga. Hwy. 138 East, Conyers.

Feb. 4, 7 p.m., Cartersville Civic Center, 435 West Main Street, Cartersville.

Feb. 5, 7 p.m., Lowndes County Civic Center, Building D, 2102 East Hill Avenue (U.S. Hwy. 84 East), Valdosta.

Any participant at a meeting may present data, make a statement or comment, or offer a viewpoint or argument, either orally or in writing. Statements should be concise to permit everyone an opportunity to speak.

Participants are required to register on arrival and to notify the registering official of their intent to give a statement. Those unable to attend a meeting may submit written statements (deadline is Feb. 16). Such statements should be mailed to:

Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division, Game Management Section, 2070 U.S. Highway 278 SE, Social Circle, GA 30025.
