Introduction to birds and birdingJoin Audubon expert Allyson Reade Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 7 p.m. at the Flat Creek Nature Center in Peachtree City and learn the basics of bird identification and watching. Get answers to your questions: What are the common birds in our area? Can you identify them by their call? What equipment do you need and where are the best places to go to birdwatch? How can you attract more birds to your yard? Southern Conservation Trust is hosting a series of Nature Discovery programs at the Flat Creek Nature Center throughout 2004. Recent program topics have included low impact landscaping, snakes, and using native plants. Upcoming events will feature live owls and other birds of prey, bees, bats, and astronomy. SCT is a nonprofit land trust based in Peachtree City that owns and manages over 600 acres of nature preserves in Fayette County. SCT partners with community groups to enhance its nature preserves with trails, overlooks and re-introduction of native species. SCT also works with willing landowners to help protect scenic open space which may provide tax advantages for the landowner. The workshop will be held at the Flat Creek Nature Center, adjacent to the Frederick Brown amphitheatre at 201 McIntosh Trail in Peachtree City The workshop starts at 7 p.m., is free and open to the public.
