Boat show back in Atlanta

Though it doesn’t feel like it, due to the recent cold spell in Georgia, boating season is right around the corner and people will be back on the water soon. To get boating afficionados and other people who love spending time on or near the water ready, the 42nd annual Atlanta Boat Show returns with one of their largest and most exciting shows ever.

The Atlanta Boat Show, which runs Jan. 14-18 at the Georgia World Congress Center, has hundreds of boats, thousands of accessories, demonstrations, exhibitions, giveaways and more in a display area of over 500,000 square feet. This year’s theme, “Discover Georgia’s Great Lakes,” will illustrate to all visitors the vast number of adventures waiting for them right here in Georgia. Many boating clubs will be on hand, as will visitor bureaus, hoping to entice boaters and their families and friends to float on down to their neck of the woods this year.

The biggest attraction for the thousands of people who visit the Atlanta Boat Show each year is the amazing deals and bargains available. “This is the ultimate showcase for what’s new and exciting in our industry,” said show manger Melisa Malone. “Boating and fishing enthusiasts will have no problem whatsoever finding sales on every aisle and around every corner.”

Some of the discounts that visitors can expect to find include cash discounts off per purchase, direct rebates, no down payments, delayed payment plans, shopping spress for accessories, pre-paid dockage allownaces and more. Among the variety of boats available are houseboats, sailboats, fishing and pontoon boats and personal watercraft. Sizes range from 9 to 90 feet. There will also be a wide variety of accessories available for purchase, including fishing equipment and electronics.

In addition to all of the shopping, there will also be a number of special features and events. The biggest feature at this year’s show will be the display of the first-ever Russian rescue boat, the C003. Only three were produced and the one at the Atlanta Boat Show is the only one still in existence. The C003, which can hold up to six people, is powered by an MP airplane engine and can travel in excess of 150 miles per hour. This will be the C003’s debut, as it was recently fully restored.

Visitors will also enjoy checking out the Let’s Go Fishing Center, which will feature over 40 special seminars throughout the run of the show, including a special appearance from noted Southeastern outdoorsman O’Neill Williams Saturday from noon-4 p.m. Other top anglers from the area will demonstrate different techniques at the 50-foot Triton tank, which is stocked with warm water fish species, including large mouth bass. In the Strike Zone, visitors will get expert guidance on casting, knot tying, and cast net skills. They will also get to use a number of fishing simulators and interactive fishing games, including the Triton Boats Fighting Chair, where attendees can experience the thrills of big game fishing.

There will also be plenty of prizes given away, including gift certificates, a Snug Harbor Sailboat, which will be the grand prize of the Treasure Hunt promotion, a complimentary bottle of Camus Cuvee Cognac to the first 50 boat buyers at the show, free life jackets to the first 100 kids entering the show Saturday and Sunday, entertainment and goodie bags on opening night and more.

The Atlanta Boat Show will run Wednesday-Sunday, Jan. 14-18. The hours are 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday-Friday, 10 a.m.-9 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $8 for adults, $3 for children ages 6-12 and free for children ages 5 and under. Phone 770-951-2500 or visit www.atlantaboatshow.com for more information.
