Geyer to host variety show at Christs Church at Whitewater The public is invited to a free variety show at Christs Church at Whitewater Sunday, Jan. 18 at 6 p.m. The event will be hosted by local comedian Steve Geyer and will feature performances by local entertainment and karaoke where Sonny and Cher will make a special guest appearance. Coffee and dessert will be served. Geyer is currently the minister of outreach at Heritage Christian Church. Before joining the staff at Heritage, he served as the senior high youth pastor at Belmont Church in Nashville, Tenn. Prior to joining the ministry, he traveled 18 years performing stand-up comedy. Geyer worked as a nightclub entertainer opening for such acts as Sinbad, Billy Crystal, and Ray Romano. In 1990, he hosted the regional HBO Comic Relief Special. He has recorded a live video and three comedy records with Star Song Records. Geyer has toured with Christian artists, including 4Him, Point of Grace, DeGarmo & Key, and DC Talk. There is no charge for admission to the show, however, a love offering will be taken. All proceeds will benefit the Haiti mission team which will travel to that country in February to assist a local church. A team of 10 people from Christs Church will travel to Ticousin, Haiti February 6-13 to help put a roof on a building for a sister church. During that time, they also will host a special childrens Bible story event with activities and crafts for the children in the surrounding village. The first and foremost desire of this trip is to share the love of Christ with those we meet in a tangible manner, states Chris Herget, Christs Church Global Outreach Director. Christs Church at Whitewater is on Ga. Hwy. 85 South approximately 4.5 miles from the Fayetteville courthouse and is across the street from Whitewater Middle School.
