Zaxby’s plan to be presented again

Plans for a Zaxby’s restaurant on Ga. Highway 85 north near the Pavilion will be presented again to the Fayetteville Planning and Zoning Commission at its work session meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Officials will also unveil plans for a second Wendy’s restaurant on the southside of town in the new Summit Point shopping center under construction off Ga. Highways 85 and 92. A second McDonald’s restaurant is already under construction next to the GTO’s Drive-In restaurant on the southside.

Commissioners balked last month at the modified plan for Zaxby’s because it included pervious parking spaces, which are designed to allow water to seep into the ground. The developer was urged to consider eliminating those parking spaces.

Several commissioners complained that pervious parking spaces are used to “get around” the city’s limits on impervious space, which were designed to increase the amount of landscaping on developments.

Commissioners also commended Zaxby’s for creating more room at the front of the restaurant so traffic from the adjacent J&R Clothing plaza can reach Ellis Road.

The commission does not vote during its work session meetings, instead using the time to provide input to developers on plans.
