Notables Tom Carroll of Fayetteville, a junior at McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tenn., was recently inducted into the National Honor Society. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael J. Carroll. He has been a boarding student at McCallie since his freshman year and has been an honor student and a member of the crew team, the Key Club and TEPS, McCallies sophomore leadership organization. Andrea Smith of Fayetteville was named to the deans list at Savannah College of Art and Design. She has yet to decide on a major. Shawn Self of Peachtree City and Michael Morgan and Adam Grey of Fayetteville have been awarded $1,000 Chick-fil-A Leadership Scholarships. Self and Morgan are employed by Mike Holmes at the free standing Chick-fil-A restaurant in Peachtree City and bring the units scholarships to 47, while Grey works at the Chick-fil-A Dwarf House in Fayetteville and is the 115th employee of the Dwarf House to receive a scholarship. Self is studying business administration and Grey is studying business at the University of West Georgia, while Morgan is studying business management at Clayton College and State University. Four Fayette County teens recently graduated from the Georgia National Guards Youth Challenge Academy at Fort Stewart. Tavarus Simon and Xavier Smith of Fayetteville and Leroy Stanciel and Brian Drew of Peachtree City were among more than 140 formerly at-risk teens graduating from the 22 week program. To date, more than 2,500 at-risk youth from around Georgia have completed Youth Challenge. The program is designed to help high school dropouts, age 16-18, to complete necessary requirements to obtain a GED or high school diploma. Many graduates move on to technical schools or colleges or enlist in the armed forces.
