Teen arrested for making threat with knife

Police have arrested a 16-year-old Peachtree City boy for threatening another juvenile with a knife during a confrontation Tuesday evening at the Chick-fil-A in the Peachtree Crossings Shopping Center.

The suspect displayed a knife in the parking lot and threatened to “slit” the victim’s throat as the victim and some friends left the restaurant, police said. In addition to locating the suspect, the knife used in the incident was also recovered by officers, police said.

The victim had noticed the suspect and other juveniles playing with knives in the parking lot before entering the store, police said. When the victim left the store, the juveniles spat on the victim’s car and words were exchanged, police said.

The incident is not believed to be gang-related, said Peachtree City Police Chief James Murray.

“He was just trying to be somebody and trying to act tough,” Murray said, adding that the incident “could have been deadly.”

The suspect, whose name was not released, was charged with aggravated assault and obstruction of a police officer. The suspect, who also faces weapons charges for possession of a switchblade knife, lives in the Sawmill Trace subdivision, police said.
