Obituaries

John William Gore, 80, Newnan, died Dec. 17, 2003. He was born Dec. 10, 1923 in Carroll County, Ga., the son of John Henry and Janie Mae Noles Gore. He was a retired mechanic for International Harvester and was a member of Happy Hill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Elizabeth Horton Gore. Services were at the McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Fleming officiating. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Newnan. Survivors include a son, Ronnie and Debbie Gore; daughters, Patricia Gore and Buddy Brown, and Joan Gore, Newnan; grandchildren, Derwin and Ellen Brown, Holland and Mary Beth Brown, and Andy and Rebecca Gore; and great-grandchildren, Madelin, Taylor, and Noah Brown. McKoon Funeral Home, Newnan, was in charge.

Andrew Vander Heide Sr., 86, Sharpsburg, died Dec. 20, 2003. He was born in 1917 in Holland, son of Andries and Johanna Vander Heide. His family immigrated to American and settles in Holland two years later. He served in the United States Army Medical Corps in World War II, serving in the Philippines and New Guinea. Upon returning he continued his career as a printing pressman, retiring in 1983. He then moved to Georgia and was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church. Memorial services were held at the Jones Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Dahl officiating. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Helen Marie Vander Heide, Sharpsburg; a son, Andrew and Suk Vander Heide Jr., Fayetteville; a daughter, Alida Marie and Don Lewis, Sharpsburg; a sister, Frederika Elizabeth Kiethley; grandchildren, Luke, Daniel, Susan, Sharon, and Sarah; and great-grandchildren, Tevyn and Tailei. Jones Funeral Home, Newnan, was in charge.

Jeroline Stephens Shelnutt, 89, Newnan, died Dec. 27, 2003. She was born June 20, 1914 in Heard County, the daughter of Frank M. and Rosa Strickland Stephens. She was reared in the Welcome Community of Coweta County. She was employed at Arnco Mills for many years. She was a member of East Newnan Baptist Church. Services were at East Newnan Baptist Church with the Rev. Frank Powers officiating. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan. Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Jewel Shelnutt; sons, Bob and Janice Shelnutt, Atlanta, and Max and Betty Shelnutt, Sharpsburg; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. McKoon Funeral Home, Newnan, was in charge.

Bobbie "Sue" Berryhill, 62, Newnan, died Dec. 27, 2003. She was born Jan. 23, 1941 in Bowden, Ga. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Joseph Dye officiating. Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. Survivors include her husband, Bobby G. Berryhill, Newnan; and a son, Shane and Sharon Kuykendall, Fayetteville. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Peachtree City, was in charge.

"Gene" Nolen, 62, Newnan, died Dec. 30, 2003. He was born July 25, 1941. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas E. Nolen. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and was employed as an electrician for the Coweta County Board of Education. Services were at McKoon Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Buddy James officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Newnan. Survivors include his mother, Edith Nolen; a brother, Joe Nolen, Newnan; and nephews, Brad Nolen, and Mitch Nolen, both of Newnan. McKoon Funeral Home, Newnan, was in charge.

Ruth Moore Smallwood, 59, Senoia, died Dec. 30, 2003. Graveside services were at the Senoia City Cemetery with the Rev. Harry Parkerson officiating. Survivors include her husband, I. R. Smallwood; a son, Timmy Duncan; sisters, Betty Hawkins, Christine Burk, and Jean Watkins; and one grandchild. McKoon Funeral Home, Newnan, was in charge.

Gladys Bridges Sprayberry, 94, Newnan, died Dec. 31, 2003. She was born Aug. 5, 1909 in Newnan, the daughter of John and Nonie Simmons Bridges. She was preceded in death by her husband, N. D. Sprayberry. Her working career was in the textile industry with Arnco Mills. She was a member of Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church. Services were at the McKoon Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Gary Parrish and the Rev. Jane Vaughn officiating. Survivors include her children, Barbara Thompson, Newnan, and Mavis Trice, Lake Junaluska, N.C.; grandchildren, James Mathews Trice, James Christopher Trice, and Debra Gourley; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church, 4301 Highway 70, Newnan, GA 30263. McKoon Funeral Home, Newnan, was in charge.
