This ‘feud’ is officially over

Please permit me to set the record straight regarding the article in your Dec. 17, 2003, issue titled, “Fayette Faces: The feud continues.”

First, there is not and never has been any feud on this issue, at least not from me. This is a term you chose to use, not I.

Second, my initial letter to you was merely an observation to you and Mr. Jordan. It was regarding what I viewed as an oversight on his part regarding African-American contributions to the “building of Fayette County” and their exclusion in the picture of “ The Faces that built Fayette.”

I stand by my observation. There were contributions by African-Americans and I hope they will be included in any future articles on this issue.

Third, I find it hard to understand why Mr. Jordan, in his Nov. 26 letter, and Mr. Nance, in his Dec. 17 letter, felt it necessary to make the kind of comments they did simply because of an observation that was intended to be constructive in the first place.

I will not dignify Mr. Nance’s comments with a response. It is a sad commentary that in 2003, the mere contention that African-Americans helped build Fayette County would elicit such comments of a personal nature. For his information, I have never denigrated Mr. Jordan’s work as a police officer as Mr. Nance seems to imply. Mr. Jordan’s work as a police officer speaks for itself. And by the way, Mr. Nance, I’m not going anywhere.

I’m comforted in the fact that I do not believe that Mr. Nance’s comments represent the sentiments of most of Fayette County’s residents.

So, Mr. Citizen, if there was ever a feud, for my part, please consider it ended.

Dan Lowry

Fayetteville, Ga.
