SCAT swimmers excel at Senior Championships

The Southern Crescent Aquatic Team Senior swimmers generated some powerful swims at the Georgia Senior State Championships Dec. 12­14 in Atlanta. SCAT clearly made an impact on the Georgia swimming scene by finishing in the top six (girls fourth, boys sixth) out of over 23 teams from around the state.

“It was truly a team effort,” said head coach Jamey Myers. “We were able to score almost 300 more points than last year and most of that was due to outstanding relay performances. This was a terrific meet for our team in many respects.”

SCAT swimmers qualifying to swim at this state level championship were Lauren Cartwright, Noah Copeland, Katelyn Davis, MacKenzie Garrot, Julie Glass, Georgia Highsmith, Matthew Hildebrand, Billy Jamerson, Heather Jones, Sara Larson, Chris Lee, Lindsey Lochridge, Thomas Lucak, David Menchinger, Bryan Mitchell, Zach Payne, Jessica Pratt, Nicole Roddenbery, and Britany Stevens.

Billy Jamerson was three-time state champion in the 50 free, 100 breast and 200 breast, and set a new state record in the 100 breast in the process.

SCAT also had 3 new swimmers make the time standard for the Junior National Championships in Orlando. Qualifying for Junior Nationals in new events are Brittany Stevens (100 fly), Nicole Roddenbery (100 fly) and Lauren Cartwright (200 IM). SCAT swimmers who placed in finals and scored points for the team include Lauren Cartwright, Nicole Roddenbery, Mackenzie Garrot, Brittany Stevens, Billy Jamerson, Chris Lee, Noah Copeland and Zach Payne.

SCAT swimmers set 17 new team records:

• Nicole Roddenbery — 50 back (29.00), 100 back (1:00.84), 100 free (54.39) and 100 fly (57.84).

• Lauren Cartwright — 100 breast (1:09.50), 200 breast (2:28.18), 200 fly (2:08.93), 200 IM (2:09.25) and 400 IM (4:41.20).

• Billy Jamerson — 100 breast (55.75) and 200 breast (2:03.13).

• Girls 200 medley, 400 medley and 200 freestyle relays (Roddenbery, Cartwright, Stevens, Garrot).

• Boys 400 medley relay (Lucak, Jamerson, Payne, Copeland).

The following athletes also scored points for the team on relays and turned in some outstanding performances: Georgia Highsmith, Heather Jones, Jessica Pratt, Katelyn Davis, Sarah Larson, Julie Glass, Lindsey Lochridge, Matthew Hildebrand, David Menchinger and Bryan Mitchell.

Finishing the meet with 100-percent best times in all events were Billy Jamerson, Heather Jones, Sarah Larson, Chris Lee, Thomas Lucak, Zach Payne and Brittany Stevens.
