EMC raises $5K for teen program

Thanks to Coweta-Fayette EMC’s Operation Round-Up, the Fayette Pregnancy Resource Center has received $5,000 for “Breaking the Chain,” a program for at-risk teens and their families.

They are trying to provide these teens with the necessary tools they need in order to make better choices for their futures. They currently work with the Fayette County Juvenile Court System but would also like to work with the juvenile courts in other counties, youth groups and individual parents requesting help with their at-risk teens or any other groups where there may be teens in trouble.

The program targets girls between the ages of 12-16 who are sexually active, runaways, on drugs or alcohol, or rebellious at home. They would like to enroll 7-10 girls for each six-week series.

Operation Round-Up is a Coweta-Fayette program that contributes more than $100,000 a year to worthy groups in the EMC service area. The awards are funded through voluntary contributions of EMC members whose monthly electric bills are “rounded up” to the nearest dollar. The money is managed through the Coweta-Fayette Trust and a volunteer board of directors who meet six times a year to consider applications.

Coweta-Fayette EMC is a consumer-owned cooperative providing electricity and related services to 62,000 consumers in Coweta, Fayette, Heard, South Fulton, Meriwether, Clayton, Spalding and Troop counties.
