Countywide ‘Pathfinder’ map on sale now at PTC Library

For the first time in several years, residents in and around Peachtree City can now obtain an accurate map of Fayette County’s recreational paths.

The Peachtree PathFinder Map went on sale this week at the Peachtree City Library as a fund-raiser for the Friends of the Library.

“When I moved to Peachtree City, I was baffled by the existing maps,” said publisher Tami Morris. “When I realized that the maps were several years out of date, I began my quest to develop a quality map that would actually be helpful.”

Morris enlisted the help of several people who live and work in the area to accurately develop the map. “Technical advisors” included Peachtree City and Fayette County employees as well as numerous residents and map makers from across the county.

“I met lots of friendly people while I was out on the paths trying to make sure the map was as accurate as possible. Everyone had suggestions and encouraging words,” said Morris.

The map is printed in full color on a large 22 x 33 inch format, with logical folding and heavy paper.

Whereas previous maps have been printed in two colors, the PathFinder map takes full advantage of color technology to delineate villages, city and county boundaries, cart and pedestrian paths, major streets and points of interest within the county. The maps also feature some local history and a resource and telephone listing.

Peachtree City’s five villages are color coded with red cart paths throughout, making it easy to keep track of where you are. Colorful icons pinpoint major freeway crossings, schools, boat docks, fire stations and sports complexes. A dalmatian identifies the location of Peachtree City’s proposed dog park. Designated walking paths are illustrated in green.

County neighborhoods with paths leading into Peachtree City are included, as are the nearly nine miles of Tyrone paths.

“I’m very pleased with this first effort for a quality map. From the feedback I’ve received so far, I’m pretty sure folks will welcome this change,” said Morris.

The map retails for $6.50. In addition to the library, it is available at City Hall in Peachtree City and select retailers. Morris notes that the map is available as a fund-raising vehicle for area non-profit groups.

In early 2004, Morris will publish the Peachtree PathFinder Guide Book, a 50-page guide to the Fayette County recreational paths. This spiral-bound, “laptop” guide is a comprehensive reference for all things related to the recreational paths and those who use them.

The PathFinder Guide Book features a series of larger, pull-out maps focusing on specific geographic areas with increased detail. Special sections include Path Etiquette, a Teen Driver Checklist, Golf Cart Buying Guide, Cart Maintenance & Insurance, Local History and Peachtree Trivia. The 5 x 8 format with coil binding makes it very user-friendly while out on the paths.
