Massey named as curate at Christ the King CEC

Father Paul Massey of Peachtree City has been named the new curate at Christ the King Charismatic Episcopal Church in Sharpsburg. Massey will be installed Sunday, Jan. 11 at the 10 a.m. service by the Most Rev. John W. Holloway, Bishop of Georgia.

“Curate is an English term,” explained Fr. David Epps, pastor of Christ the King,” and means ‘one who has the cure (care) of souls.’ An American equivalent might be translated as ‘associate rector’ or ‘associate pastor.’”

Massey will be assisting Epps and will be planning for a future mission congregation, Church of the Holy Cross, to be established in Fayetteville in 2004.

A former school teacher and principal, Massey has spent the last 24 years as president of the Printing Industry Association of Georgia, a position he vacated in December. He served in a number of lay leadership positions in churches throughout the years before being ordained to the diaconate in 1997 and to the priesthood two years later. Currently, he serves as a member of The Bishop’s Council for the Diocese of Georgia and as a member of the Rector’s Council at Christ the King.

Massey received his bachelor’s degree from Carson-Newman College and his master’s degree from the University of Georgia. He also studied law at the University of Tennessee and has taken ministerial courses at St. Michael’s seminary.

Massey and his wife, Dr. Judy Massey, have two adult children and several grandchildren.

Christ the King is at 4881 Ga. Hwy. 34 between Peachtree City and Newnan.
