Carla’s Dance Factory brings a bit of Broadway to Fayetteville

Would you like to see a show similar to the Radio City Music Hall Christmas show, with kick-lines, great music and even a visit from Santa, without trekking all the way up to New York City?

If the answer is yes, you’re in luck. Carla’s Dance Factory in Fayetteville is staging such a Christmas show this Saturday at Sams Auditorium, “From Broadway to Fayette Square,” and the best part is that the proceeds will benefit The Joseph Sams School and the Hope House Respite Center for Special Needs Children.

The first act will be a tribute to Broadway with the Fayette Showstoppers performing a tap number to “Will-A-Mania” from “The Will Rogers Follies.” They will also perform the famous Hand Drill number from the show as well.

The Fayette Showstoppers are the largest of the four adult companies at Carla’s Dance Factory and feature 26 dancers. The group performed the number at this year’s Festival of Trees in Atlanta and was invited to audition for the opening of the Citrus Bowl Super Holiday Parade in Orlando.

The Dancin’ Dan Trio will also perform in the first act. The group, which features dancer ranging in age form 58-72, has been national champs several times. The second act will feature selections from “The Nutcracker” but will be jazzed up a little bit.

The thir act will feature lyrical dances to Christmas classics like “O Holy Night” and “Silent Night,” while the fourth act will feature more traditional Christmas songs, a visit from Santa and the Toy Soldier Dance, which features formations and kicklines and is very reminiscient of the Rockettes. There will be a brief intermission between the second and third act and the show is expected to run just under two hours.

The idea to do a benefit show came from one of the dancers who had a daughter attend the Joseph Sams School for over a year. She saw the need for funds up close as a lot of the teachers at the school took voluntary pay cuts to keep the school open.

The Joseph Sams School, located in Fayetteville, is a private, nonprofit school serving children ages two through fifteen who have mild to severe intellectual and/or physical disabilities or diagnosed developmental disabilities. The school provides intense educational training as well as speech and language therapy for its students.

The Hope House Respite Center for Special Needs Children provides temporary relief for families and caregivers and helps people from all over the metro Atlanta area. It provides the children’s parents a few hours rest from the near 24 hour care their children need and it is also a time for the children to be with other children and meet new people.

There will be two performances of “From Broadway to Fayette Square” Saturday, at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children and senior citizens. Phone 770-461-6057 or visit www.carlasdancefactory.com for more information.
