Howard is new Synovus chief executive Synovus, the Columbus-based financial services company, has announced the promotion of Donald D. Don Howard to regional chief executive officer for the Atlanta market. Howard will continue to serve as chairman and CEO of Synovus affiliate, Bank of North Georgia, headquartered in Alpharetta. In his new additional role as regional CEO, Howard will have overall responsibility for strategic activities in the Synovus banks in the Atlanta region including Bank of North Georgia, Citizens and Merchants Bank in Douglasville, Mountain National in Tucker, Charter Bank and Trust in Marietta, Peachtree National in Peachtree City, Bank of Coweta in Newnan and First Nation Bank in Covington. Don is the leader we need to continue growing our presence in the Atlanta area, said Fred Green, Synovus Vice Chairman. As the Chairman and CEO of Bank of North Georgia, Don knows the Atlanta market and understands our customers needs. His outstanding leadership in recent years has contributed significantly to our banking success in Atlanta. Howard previously served as president and chief operating officer of Bank of North Georgia until 2003 when he was appointed as chairman and CEO. Prior to Howard joining Bank of North Georgia, he served as the president and CEO of North Georgia National Bank. In 1993, Bank of North Georgia was formed with the merger of North Georgia National Bank and Cherokee Federal Bank. From 1981 to 1987, Howard served as president and CEO of Roswell Bank in Roswell, Georgia, and from 1987 to 1988 he served as president and CEO of Northside Bank & Trust Company in Roswell. Howard currently serves as vice president of the Board at the Roswell Convention and Visitors Bureau and secretary and treasurer of the North Fulton Community Improvement District. Howard is an advisory board member for the College of Business at Georgia Southern University and for the North Metro Miracle League. He received his B.B.A. degree from Georgia Southern University and is a graduate of the University of Georgia Banking School and the Louisiana State University School of Banking of the South. |
