Heres a rundown on some of the latest high school basketball action from area high schools, including some early-season matchups of intracounty teams. After winning their first three games of the season, Landmarks boys suffered their first loss of the season in the Bull City Classics Challenge Series in North Carolina in late November. In Region 5-A action, the War Eagles downed Our Lady of Mercy 90-44 Dec. 2 behind 33 points from Justin Holland and 30 points and 19 rebounds from Randolph Morris. Chris Spencer, Terkaa Iye and Sebastian Kurtz each scored 9 for the Bobcats. The Lady Bobcats beat Landmark 37-35 as Amy Fortener scored 13 and Uzi Moh added 12. Merritt Tidwell of Landmark led all scorers with 16. The Our Lady of Mercy girls are now 5-1 on the season. A game scheduled for this past weekend was postponed and will be rescheduled. The Starrs Mill boys improved to 2-2 on the season with a convincing 73-53 road win over the Newnan Cougars early last week. The Panthers received a major performance from senior forward Mike Mock, who scored 25 points, pulled down 11 rebounds and had 6 assists. At the half the Panthers were nursing a four-point lead at 30-26, but pulled away in the second half in the Region 4-AAAAA contest. Caleb Graham scored 15 points and Chris Hadzick 14 to join Mock in double figures. Rounding out the Starrs Mill scoring was Todd Oakley with 9; Andy Drum with 8 points and 8 assists; and Nick Plotner and Mark Harris with 1 point apiece. The Starrs Mill boys and girls won their games Friday night over Fayette County. The Sandy Creek boys team played three region games, all on the road, last week and are now at 5-3 overall, 3-1 in Region 4-AAAA. The Patriots lost 85-81 in overtime to Lithia Springs Dec. 2. Aaron Caruthers led the team with 34 points, with 17 coming from Kevin Lott and 15 from Charles Belton. Caruthers scored 28 Friday night in an 87-55 win over Pebblebrook, and added 25 the next in a 56-50 victory over Forest Park. Belton scored 10 in that game. More region action is on tap for Sandy Creek this week, with last nights game at North Clayton followed by a home game against Woodward Friday and a road game Saturday against Chapel Hill. In the latest coaches poll, the only local school represented is Landmark. The boys are ranked fifth in the state in Class A, while the girls are seventh.
