Should we change name to ‘Peace-mas’?

After reading Mrs. Williams’ letter about the so-called “Peace Tree” at The Avenue, I felt compelled to reply.

Yes, Mrs. Williams, it must be a daunting task to prepare these celebrations, especially since they must be careful not to alienate anyone.

What a bunch of hogwash! Should we change the holiday to peacemas? No, of course not, but when we take the Christ out of the Christmas celebration, isn’t that in essence what we are doing?

Notice the emphasis on Christ. Fundamentally, Christmas is about the celebration of Jesus Christ’s birth.

Another question that was asked was, Christmas is a religious holiday but why can’t everyone participate and be made to feel accepted? Did I miss the memo that said, “Non-Christians cannot enjoy the holiday season”?

I didn’t think so.
