Booth downs Rising Starr on mat

The J.C. Booth Middle School wrestling team evened its record at 1-1 Tuesday afternoon by defeating rival Rising Starr Middle 51-42.

In the most exciting and evenly contested match of the night, eighth-grader Matt Carroll (167 lbs.) pinned his opponent as time expired in the final period. Other eighth-grade victors include Richard Hughes (105), Doug Taylor (110), David Widfeldt (120), Erik Willanzheimer (127), David Puterbaugh (157), David Rogers (187) and Jonathan Smith (heavyweight). Seventh-grader Clint Ford opened the meet with a victory at 75 lbs.

The Warriors travel to Austin Road Middle School today for their next dual match and then to Union Grove High School tomorrow to compete as a combined team with the McIntosh High School team in the Wolverine Program Classic against seven other middle school and high school wrestling teams.
