Two holiday concerts next week

Both the Fayette Youth Chorale and the Sandy Creek High School choruses will perform holiday concerts next week. The choruses, all under the direction of Millie Turek, will blend holiday favorites with other seasonal songs from around the world.

The Fayette Youth Chorale will perform Sunday, Dec. 7, at 3 p.m. at Sams Auditorium in Fayetteville. Tickets will be on sale at the door for $5. The FYC is an auditioned community children's choir for gifted young singers, ages 9-14, from Fayette and Coweta counties. Now in their sixth season, the FYC will present sacred and secular songs of the season. The chorus is preparing to perform at the Crescent City Choral Festival in New Orleans in the summer of 2004 as one of nine children's choirs from around the United States.

The Sandy Creek High School choruses will take the stage at Sams Monday, Dec. 8, at 7:30 p.m. The concert will feature all 175 chorus members and featured solosists in songs of the holiday season.

The Treble Chorus will perform “Go Where I Send Thee” and “All I Want for Christmas is You.” Other selections include:

• Men’s Chorus - Nigerian Christmas song “Bethelehemu.”

• Honors Ensemble - two Latvian Carols and “My Grown Up Christmas List.”

• Select Mixed - Biebl’s, “Ave Maria” and “Deck the Halls in 7/8.”

The concert will end with alumni and choruses singing together on “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” for their annual “Choral homecoming.” The grand finale is the traditional audience sing-a-long of holiday favorites.

The concert is free and the public is invited.
