Kroger, Pizza Hut open arms to family in need

I would like to let your paper know of a wonderful kindness shown to my family by the manager (Tom Mackey) of the Fayetteville Kroger at Banks Road.

The day before Thanksgiving my family was in a car accident. We had just finished buying the food for our Thanksgiving meal. All our food was in the trunk of our car along with two cans of paint primer. Needless to say all of our food was lost.

We really didn’t have the money to re-buy everything, but we needed the food. We went back to Kroger and began the process of fighting the crowds again with our autistic son.

Two ladies overheard us talking about our trashed vehicle and lost groceries and they in turn contacted the manager.

As I stood in line to pay, he approached me and took my buggy to the pharmacy where he proceeded to bag all my items. He added an extra turkey and even a pie for dessert. He then turned to me and said, “Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.” There was no charge for anything!

Of course I cried and thanked him, when he informed me that if I found I was missing anything I could come back later and pick it up for no charge. Right before we went to Kroger we stopped in to the Fayetteville Pizza Hut to eat (since we had no food at home) and the manager there (Carol Patterson) refused to let us pay for our lunch.

I wanted to let everyone know that the businesses in Fayetteville truly care about the citizens of their town. What a wonderful way to reaffirm someone’s faith in people in times of crisis!
