Blackrock Foundation organizes banquet for Fayette Co. EMS

With volunteer support from local churches and businesses, the Blackrock Foundation, Inc. hosted the annual banquet for Fayette County Department of Emergency Services Saturday Nov.,15, at New Hope Baptist Church.

For the past 19 years, the Fayette County Fire Department has hosted an annual Thanksgiving banquet. This year, the department included not only the firefighters and paramedics, but also the 911 operators, animal control, and marshals.

Michael Cooley, executive director of The Blackrock Foundation, organized the event for the department this year.

“This is a special opportunity for the community to come together and serve our local heroes,” Cooley said. “We have a great emergency management department in this county. These are the people who, each day when they head out to door to work, are willing to put their lives on the line for us, the citizens of Fayette County. They rush into dangerous situations when everyone else is running away, and we should take the time to show our appreciation for what they do, and also for their families and the sacrifices that are involved in being a family member of someone in this department.”

New Hope provided the use of its facility free of charge, and many volunteers from the church participated. More than a dozen volunteers from Grace Evangelical Church helped organize the event and served the meal.

Many local businesses contributed with their sponsorship, including World Gym; Dixieland Funpark; Southeast Properties, Van Huss, Hogan, and McCurry; The Perfect Image; Execuserve Inc.; Attina’s Music; Group VI; Schell Design; J & R Clothing; the Kiwanis Club of Fayette County; and Speedway Slotcars.

The Blackrock Foundation is a Fayette County based non-profit organization that seeks to “find the needs” in the community through the emergency services, law enforcement, social services, and educational workers. Once the needs have been identified, the foundation organizes community-wide efforts to meet these needs by seeking support from local businesses and volunteers from local faith-based organizations.
