Got insurance questions? Buster Dean has the answers By KRISTINE FORTUNATO In a time where there seem to be more insurance companies than ever, all competing for your time and money, it takes someone special to stand out from the crowd. That someone is Buster Dean, a field representative for United American Insurance. United American has been in business since 1947 and is one of the top-rated insurance companies in the nation, Dean said. We are the only insurance company that I know of in Georgia that provides substantial discounts on prescription drugs, vitamins and nutritional supplements, dental care, chiropractic care, glasses, contacts and hearing aids, Dean said. We also have a 24-hour nurse hotline. While the company sells all types of accident, health and life insurance, it specializes in Medicare Supplement insurance. According to Dean, this is the insurance he enjoys selling the most. I prefer to sell Medicare Supplement insurance because in doing so I often get to educate people on what Medicare does and does not do and how we can provide the coverage they need. Dean says he meets people who have been on Medicare for over ten years and have no idea what it covers. When I can show a person what they could be liable for and sell that person a policy that I know will pay all liabilities, it makes me feel good. Dean enjoys educating his customers, a trait he says runs in the family. I guess I get this from my maternal grandmother. She was a school teacher all of her life, he said. It is clear that Buster Dean takes pride in his job, and goes the extra mile to help his clients. He tells the story of calling on a local couple who had requested information about the medicare Supplement insurance. The wife asked how soon we could get a policy into effect. To make a long story short, she and her husband were facing a very expensive problem. They had both been recently involuntarily terminated from their HMO and the husband had a knee replacement operation scheduled for the following week. Were talking a $20,000 to $30,000 expensive problem. Dean called his supervisor, explained the situation and got him to alert the staff in the home office that there was a policy that needed to be issued as soon as possible. Everyone pitched in and worked a little harder and a little quicker, and I was able to call the couple a few days later and tell them their insurance policies were in force, he said. That made me feel good. Just like that couple, Dean says there are approximately 19,000 seniors in Fayette and other surrounding counties who are now looking for Medicare Supplement insurance because they have the Blue Choice Platinum HMO, which is going out of business at the end of this year. For the next couple of months, because these people are being involuntarily terminated by their insurance provider, United American can provide them a Medicare Supplement insurance plan of their choice that is not only guaranteed renewable for life, it is guaranteed issue at the time the application is submitted. The premiums are based on the persons age at the time they apply for coverage, not how old they get. All of our policies are agent serviced. Our policyholders choose their doctors and they choose their hospitals, said Dean. They go where they want to go, when they want to go, as many times as they want to go. My office is coffee tables, kitchen tables, dining room tables, picnic tables, work benches and porch swings across the state of Georgia, said Dean.
