Bank stakes first claim at Summit Point in south Fayetteville By JOHN MUNFORD The first business to locate at the Summit Point mixed-use development on the south side of Fayetteville off Ga. Highway 85 was approved by the Fayetteville Planning and Zoning Commission Tuesday. The Washington Mutual Bank will be located as an outparcel at the development, which will also feature office and residential components when completed. The 4,000 sq. ft. building will be one story and have two drive-up teller lanes, a drive-up ATM and 24 parking spaces. The commission also approved a plat for a 47-home subdivision on 52.47 acres on South Jeff Davis Drive. The Sutherland Farms subdivision will be just south of the Highland Park subdivision, bordering land in unincorporated Fayette County on three sides. The developer plans to build one-acre lots on property adjacent to the unincorporated county but smaller lots elsewhere to create open space in the subdivision. The commission also voted to recommend approval of a rezoning petition for a proposed subdivision on White Road near the Heritage Lake subdivision. The property is currently zoned R-30 but the developer is seeking an R-22 designation to build 41 lots on the 31.07 acre parcel. The Heaton Lakes subdivision would preserve two lakes on the property and greenspace around the lakes. The Fayetteville City Council will decide at a later date whether or not to grant the rezoning.
