Ryckeley’s helmet column could save some lives

Thanks, Rick Ryckeley, for your column Nov. 14 on bike safety. My niece Katie had a terrible fall on her bike a few years ago in Peachtree City. The doctors told my sister Donna that Katie surely would have died if she had not been wearing her helmet.

Head injuries are a serious matter. Our sister Nanci died this July when she fell down the stairs in her home and hit her head.

Obviously it’s not practical to wear a helmet as we climb up and down our stairs, but it is practical to wear one as we ride our bikes. I get so upset now when I see kids riding around without one.

Articles like yours can help change this. Thanks for helping save a life or two.
