Scholarships to be awarded by Farm Bureau Georgia Farm Bureau will award four $1,500 college scholarships to high school seniors for the 2004-2005 academic year, J. Wayne Stradling, South Fulton County Farm Bureau president, recently announced. Students are eligible to submit an application if they, a parent or legal guardian were a member of Georgia Farm Bureau as of April 1, 2003. The scholarships are sponsored each year by the Georgia Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance company in cooperation with the Georgia Farm Bureau Womens Committee. Applicants must plan to enter a unit of The University System of Georgia or Berry College during the 2004-2005 academic year to pursue a course of study in the field of agricultural and environmental sciences, family and consumer sciences or a related agricultural field. All applications must be submitted no later than Friday, December 19, 2003. I encourage high school seniors who are planning to pursue a degree in agriculture or family and consumer sciences to consider applying for the Farm Bureau Scholarship, said Peggie Earnest, South Fulton County Farm Bureau Womens Committee chairman. Farm Bureau welcomes the opportunity to assist our states future agriculture leaders in continuing their education. Career opportunities in agriculture are widely diverse from biotechnology to business to communications. The ten state finalists must attend an interview with the scholarship judges in Macon on February 7, 2004. The four state winners and an alternate will be announced during a luncheon following the interviews. Scholarship recipients will receive $750 their freshman year of college and will receive the remaining $750 their sophomore year of college provided they maintain a B average their freshman year. Contact the South Fulton County Farm Bureau office at 770-463-1730 for more information about the scholarship program or to obtain an application. An application may also be downloaded from the Georgia Farm Bureau web site at www.gfb.org/women <http://www.gfb.org/women> .
