Mattie C. Holloway
Mattie C. Holloway, 73, Newnan, died Oct. 24, 2003. She was born Feb. 11, 1930 in Carroll County, the daughter of the late Walter and Minnie Knott Cook. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Junior and Mable Cook. She was retired from Bibb Manufacturing Company and was a homemaker. She was a lover of gospel music and a dedicated member of Arnco Baptist Church. Well-known for her wry and self-deprecating sense of humor, she was affectionately known to her family and friends as "the crazy lady." Services were at McKoon Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. J. C. Cook and the Rev. C. A. Jernigan officiating. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan, Ga. Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Henry Donald Holloway; a brother, Eugene and Mary Cook; a nephew, Troy and Deborah Cook; a niece, Shirley and Danny Carnes, all of Whitesburg; and a sister-in-law, JoAnn Cook. McKoon Funeral Home, Newnan, was in charge.
Joseph Lewis McKoon, Sr.
Joseph Lewis McKoon, Sr., 76, Newnan, died Oct. 24, 2003. He was born June 15, 1927 in the Raymond community, Coweta County, the son of the late Roy Wyche and Florence Jesse Duke McKoon. He was also preceded in death by a son, William Anthony McKoon. He was drafted in 1945 and served in the United States Army Air Corps. He was involved in the Berlin air lift in 1947. He later spent eight years in the Army and served two tours of duty in the Navy Seabees in Viet Nam. Services were at the McKoon Funeral home with the Rev. Bobby Partridge officiating. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan, with military honors. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann Wallace McKoon; sons, Joseph Lewis and Patricia McKoon Jr., Tony Harold and Tina McKoon, and Roy Alton McKoon; a daughter, Marlena Ginger Ann Frost; a granddaughter, Amanda Elaine McKoon; and great-grandchildren, Angel Lynn, Toni Marie, and Katalyn Nicole McKoon. McKoon Funeral Home, Newnan, was in charge.
William Samuel Lifsey
William Samuel "Bill" Lifsey, 99, Newnan, died Nov. 3, 2003. He was born Jan. 1, 1904 in Meansville, Ga., the son of William Samuel Lifsey and Obediah Smith Lifsey Sr. He was married to the late Willie Maude Arthur Lifsey, Meansville, and then married for 53 years to the late Dot Ida Kite Lifsey. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Doris Lifsey Andrews. He was with the Railway Postal Service for 38 years and a deacon emeritus at First Baptist Church. Services were at the First Baptist Church of Newnan with the Rev. Dr. Gene Tyre and the Rev. Jerry Walker officiating. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan. Survivors include a son, John David and Mae Lifsey, Atlanta; a daughter, Frances Lifsey and Bill Perry, Columbia S. C.; a son-in-law, Nat Andrews, Jasper, Ga.; a daughter-in-law, Sarah Lifsey, Young Harris, Ga.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Southwest Christian Hospice or the First Baptist Church. McKoon Funeral Home, Newnan, was in charge.
