Three local volleyball teams have reached the final four in their respective classifications, and one could take home a state championship.

In the Class A Elite Eight tournament at Holy Innocents, Landmark won three straight matches to reach the championship round, following up their opening victory over Prince Avenue Christian (25-13, 25-12, 25-23) with wins over Darlington and Decatur. The Lady War Eagles will take the court Saturday morning at Westminster and face the winner of the loser’s bracket final between Decatur and Walker.

The AAAAA Elite Eight tournament was played at Marietta, and the McIntosh Lady Chiefs opened play with a win over Oconee County in four games, then a four-game win against Kennesaw Mountain. A loss to St. Vincent’s put the Lady Chiefs in the losers bracket, where they fell to Sequoyah in their final match to finish third. St. Vincent’s will face Sequoyah Saturday at Westminster for the state title.

The Sandy Creek Lady Patriots wrapped up their best volleyball season ever last Saturday with a fourth-place finish in the AAAA Elite Eight tournament at Marist. After coming back from a two-game deficit to defeat Ringgold (23-25, 10-25, 25-19, 25-12, 15-13) in their opening match, they fell to Woodward (9-25, 9-25, 11-25) and dropped into the loser’s bracket. A win over Greenbrier (25-8, 24-26, 25-20, 25-15) set up a rematch with Ringgold, which the Lady Patriots lost (24-26, 25-16, 22-25, 21-25) to end their season. Woodward will face Marist Saturday at Westminster for the AAAA state championship.

Starr’s Mill also competed in the AAAAA tournament at Marietta, closing out their season with losses to Kennesaw Mountain and Oconee County to finish in the state’s top eight.
