Cree earns landscape certification

Landscape designer David Cree of Peachtree City was a recent recepient of the coveted award of Georgia Certified Landscape Professional.

The Georgia Certified Landscape Professional (GCLP) Program is a voluntary testing and certification program that recognizes those who have mastered the knowledge and skills to be the best in Georgia’s landscape industry. Established in 1993, GCLP is the sole standard statewide for measuring and recognizing knowledge among industry professionals. In the entire state, less than a dozen individuals are certified per year attesting to the program’s high standards of achievement.

One must have demonstrated proficiency in plant identification (over 300 types including trees, shrubs, turf and weeds), solving environmental as well as pest and disease problems and extensive landscaping ability. Successful certification through GCLP requires rigorous testing through field and written exams. Additional training is required through courses, workshops, and seminars at various locations throughout Georgia.

GCLP is endorsed by the Georgia Green Industry Association, the Georgia Turfgrass Association, and the Metro Atlanta Landscape and Turf Association and is administered through The University of Georgia College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences.

Although Cree has been performing landscaping and horticultural services for several decades, he felt that acquiring Georgia certification would give added credibility to his company, Peach State Horticulture, and value to his customers.

“If customers know their Landscape Designer/Contractor is Georgia Certified, it should give them a tremendous boost of confidence and comfort in knowing that they are hiring someone among the most competent in the State,” said Cree.

David’s own gardens at his and his wife Trudi’s home have been opened to the public on numerous occasions including the annual Peachtree City Garden Tour. His gardens are living proof of his passion and proficiency.
