Plenty of non-haunted treats this Halloween weekend

In addition to trick or treating on Friday night and haunted houses that are dying for you to visit, there will be lots of fall festivals and special events to participate in.

Tyrone kicks things off on Halloween with Mayor Lee’s Annual Pumpkin Walk, which runs from 8:30-11 a.m. Children from area elementary schools and church preschools will bring their own decorated pumpkin creations to Tyrone Town Hall’s Pumpkin Patch. Pumpkins will be judged and certificates and awards will be presented later. After school, the children of Tyrone are invited to trick or treat the businesses of Tyrone from 3-5 p.m.

Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church will have Halloween Festivities beginning at 6 p.m. in their parking lot. There will be carnival games inside from 6:30-8 p.m. and a costume contest at 7 p.m. The church asks that costumes are fun and light-hearted. Admission is free. After the activities, a middle school Halloween lock-in will take place from 9 p.m.-8 a.m. The fee is $10 and a snack and drink to share. Costumes are welcome but participants are asked to bring a pillow, a sleeping bag and a change of clothes for the next day.

Adults can party on Halloween by attending the Atlanta Halloween Fest at the Contemporary Museum of Art. The party is open to ages 18 and older and will feature music by Iambic Underground, classic horror movie props and more. The party lasts from 8 p.m.-2 a.m. and tickets are $20 in advance, $22 at the door and $25 at the door with no costume. Visit www.99x.com for more information.

The Halloween fun continues the following day with a fall festival at Zion Lutheran Church in Newnan from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. They will have auctions, a cake walk, children’s activities, refreshments and entertainment. Fayetteville United Pentecostal Church will also have a fall festival on Saturday. Their event will feature hayrides, children’s activities, a turkey shoot and more.

Whatever you decide to do and wherever you decide to go, make sure you have a good time and stay safe.

Happy Halloween.
