Gracia Burnham to speak at Berachah Bible Church Nov. 2

Author and former Philippine hostage Gracia Burnham will be the guest speaker at the 9:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Nov. 2, at Berachah Bible Church, 310 Corinth Rd., Jonesboro (Fayette County).

Burnham and her husband, Martin, were celebrating their 18th wedding anniversary at Dos Palmas resort off Palawan Island, Philippines in May, 2001, when they were abducted and held hostage for 376 days by Philippine rebels. Burnham’s husband was killed in June of 2002 in a firefight between the Philippine military and the Abu Sayyaf group. Burnham, herself, was wounded in the leg, but was freed.

She now resides in Rose Hill, Kan. with her three children. She is the author of a book, In the Presence of My Enemies, which gives an account of the couple’s year of terror in the Philippine jungle. She also is the founder and director of the Martin and Gracia Burnham Foundation.
