Visit a haunted house and get in the Halloween spirit

Halloween is a little over two weeks away and for those looking to get in the spirit there are a number of haunted happenings in the area leading up to the big night.

Peachtree City’s Fire Department will have a haunted house Friday and Saturday, Oct. 24 and 25, at their Burn Building, located at the Leach Fire Station at 110 Paschall Road. The project, staffed and coordinated by the fire department, will also feature members of the local explorer post and a recreation department youth group.

The burn building is a two-story structure and will have 10-12 scary themes depicted. Organizers feel that the haunted house is appropriate for ages 12 and up. Advanced tickets can be purchased at the Leach or Weber stations for $4. Regular admission is $5 and all proceeds will go to Fire Fighter/EMT training and equipment.

The next step above the Peachtree City Fire Department’s haunted house is going to Horror Hill in Newnan. Horror Hill first opened in 1984 and has grown from teenagers in cheap masks jumping out at visitors on a little trail to two large trails filled with buildings, cabins, mazes, tunnels, bridges and trap doors among other things.

In addition to Horror Hill, the new trail this year is Vertigo Trail. If you survive both of these horrific walks, you can enter the terrifying maze, Final Destination.

Horror Hill is open from dark to midnight Friday and Saturdays and from dark to 10 p.m. on weeknights. They will be open Oct. 17-19 and then Oct. 23-Nov. 1. Admission is $12 for either Horror Hill or Vertigo Trail or $20 for both. Coupons are available at www.horrorhill.com but are not good Fridays or Saturdays.

Newnan will also host Spirit Strolls Oct. 18 and 25 at 7 and 8 p.m. The Newnan/Coweta Historical Society will put on the strolls and walk visitors through the area, telling spooky stories. Admission is $15 for adults and $12.50 for students. Phone 770-251-0207 for more information.

Lovejoy is also getting into the haunted house game with Lab X Haunted House. The scares involve escaped prisoners who have been experimented on with radiation. Lab X will be open 8 p.m.-midnight Oct. 17-19, 23-26, 30 and 31 and Nov. 1. There is also more information, a $5 off coupon and directions available at www.labxhauntedhouse.com. Phone 770-935-7001 for more information.

If you are willing to travel further, you can always visit Fright Fest at Six Flags, which features all of the normal thrill rides, two haunted houses, an interactive game, special events and more. Phone 770-739-3440 for more information.

There is also Netherworld Haunted House in Atlanta and Camp Blood in Carrollton. For more information on Netherworld and its haunted houses, visit www.fearworld.com and for more information on Camp Blood, visit www.campblood.com.
