Swimmers
named to national teams
Two local swimmers are getting some national exposure.
Billy Jamerson of the Southern Crescent Aquatic Team in Peachtree City
has been named to the 2003-04 USA Swimming National Junior Team. As a
National Junior Team member, he attended the Junior Team Camp Oct. 2-5
in Colorado Springs, Colo., the Olympic Training Camp for swimmers from
the United States. He will also represent the United States in international
competition in Australia in January.
A senior at Sandy Creek High School, Jamerson is a two-time junior national
champion and has set a junior national record in the 50-yard breaststroke.
His other national title came in the 100-yard breaststroke. He has won
numerous local and state honors in swimming, including the first-ever
individual state championship for Sandy Creek or the county. He is the
2003 Georgia Games state champion in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke.
Noah Copeland, also a SCAT swimmer, has been selected to USA Swimmings
2003 Open Water All-American Team. He is one of only 10 male athletes
in the country to receive this honor.
Copeland recently took third place in the USA Swimming National 25-Kilometer
Championship in Clemson, S.C. His father, Rob, also competed and placed
fourth. The Copelands are the highest placing parent-child duo ever at
a national championship, and their efforts made SCAT USA Swimmings
2003 National Team Champions for the 25k. Noah is a junior at Starrs
Mill High School.
